Small towns are fertile grounds for creativity. Where there are no big distractions, things to do or places to go, procrastination, when it’s well-explored, turns out to be art. And that was how Maria was born. Legend has it that he, as a teen, missed his classes in order to produce music. Then, he started exploring the hip hop scene - from Detroit to Bristol - working to buy his own records.
Perhaps, it was also there that - even without being aware of it - he began to became the master of sampling we know nowadays. Sampling, of course, but also finding who-sampled-whom, compiling his discoveries. At some point, his journey turned to electronics, with synthesizers and heavy machinery that led him to create several projects and alter-egos, but which, in a certain way, caused the universe to bring him to us.
With an out-of-this-world sensibility, he transposes his aesthetic sense and organization into his productions. As an example, we have Cor & Forma EP, and his contributions to ROXO or Beat Camp. Sometimes it’s very difficult to guess what’s in your mind, because he’s always in a constant contemplation state, searching for new ideas.
