Seeds as a commons: open source seeds licences and initiatives

As 60% of the world seeds are sold by four giant companies, all around the world the idea of open source seeds is flourishing as an act of resistance against patents and privatization. From Philippines to USA, Kenya, Germany, Austria and Argentina, a handful of organisations are working on open source seeds licences, platforms and protocols, inspired by open source software and Creative Commons movements. The goal is to ensure biodiversity to fight hunger: the seeds commons as a real alternative for agroecology. Can we think about biological material the same way we think about software, hardware or art?
